Bob Ciminel has earned his SCDNR certification! He joined DeBordieu & Hobcaw S.C.U.T.E. in 2017 and has been practicing his turtling skills on our 5+ miles of beach, walking with many volunteers. Bob says his experience has been the ‘most enlightening work he has ever done with nature’.

Bob was in the US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program and spent 5 years on the USS Lafayette submarine. He served as an engineering watch supervisor (he made the sub run).

Bob and his wife Alice reside at Pawleys Plantation and have a grown daughter and son. They vacationed at Pawleys Island for years and in 2014 they permanently moved here from Atlanta. Bob immediately got involved as a volunteer with a number of organizations such as: Hobcaw Barony Foundation, North Inlet National Estuarine Research Reserve and the SC Maritime Museum. He is employed as a naturalist by the tour boat, Carolina Rover and uses his time to educate people about sea turtles among other things. He is helpful reporting turtle crawls on the bayside of Winyah Bay to the North Island Turtle Team.

Bob has worked hard for his certification and we congratulate him!
