It was a year ago today that South Carolina had it’s first loggerhead nest (Kiawah Island). There was also a Kemps ridley nest laid the same day at Hilton Head. The ocean temperature is still on the cool side (67) and is usually around 75 degrees when we get our first nest. Last year DeBordieu had it’s first nest on May 13 (day after Mother’s Day). DeBordieu & Hobcaw SCUTE volunteers are getting ready for the green light from SCDNR to begin surveys (while socially distancing, of course)!
