DeBordieu, Hobcaw & Prince George volunteers are building a team to participate in a 5K walk/run to raise funds for the Sea Turtle Care Center at the SC Aquarium. If you have ever visited this facility in Charleston, you know the wonderful work they do rehabilitating stranded sick and injured sea turtles from our beaches. The Aquarium has been hit very hard financially by the pandemic and may not be able to continue to admit sick turtles to their hospital. For more information, click here:https://youtu.be/dHTwI7JE8Bo

If you would like to participate, you may do so either in person or virtually. The “live” SCUTE LOOP race will be October 10, 2020 at 8 AM starting at the Debordieu Beach Club. For the virtual race, simply pick any 5K route (3.1 miles) you like and walk or run between October 10-17, then submit results (and any fun pictures!) to Susan Davis at sndavis05@gmail.

THE SCUTE LOOP is open to DeBordieu & Prince George property owners, our sea turtle volunteers and Hobcaw staff only. Register with Susan Davis at 843-325-1800 or sndavis05@gmail. Include your name, age, whether you will run or walk, your address, email and shirt size (Y/Small, A/Small-XL). Register early, limited supply! You will receive a race number and T-shirt (5K T-shirt logo seen here).

The fee is $40 for adults $10 children (check payable to SEA TURTLE CARE) Mail check to Susan Davis at 3175 Luvan Blvd, Georgetown, SC 29440 Tax deductible, all proceeds go to SC Aquarium Turtle Hospital. Any additional donations are welcomed.

For those who witnessed the loggerhead nesting on Prince George (below) the nest had an extremely successful hatch rate (83%!) despite hurricanes, predators, King Tides and nor’easters. If you missed the video, see it here: https://youtu.be/6m_omeXcIN4

Or if you missed the sunrise release of other hatchlings on our Prince George beach, see it here: https://youtu.be/MOly7lhX-CQ

COVID has prevented our public inventories this year, so these videos will serve as our virtual substitution. Please plan to join us for THE SCUTE LOOP 5K either virtually or on Saturday, October 10!
