Jeff spent countless hours rescuing sick and injured sea turtles of all species and transported them to the SC Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Care Center. It is fitting that anyone wishing to honor Jeff should make contributions in his name to:
Sea Turtle Care 100 Aquarium Wharf Charleston, SC 29401
In July ’07, a large female loggerhead laid a nest but was found at the surf’s edge, unable to get back in the ocean. She had a large hole in her carapace and needed to be transported to the Sea Turtle Care Center at the SC Aquarium. Here, a SCDNR biologist, assisted by Jeff loads “DeB” into a truck for the ride to Charleston.
After 2 years in rehabilitation at the Sea Turtle Care Center, DeB was released at Isle of Palms, witnessed by a record crowd of 1000+! Jeff played an important role in the sea turtle rescue and said he was always relieved when his patients made the trip and he could hand them off to the Aquarium staff. Thanks Jeff!
