DeBordieu & Hobcaw SCUTE volunteers are preparing for Turtle Season 2018 with anticipation of another great year! We are getting our backpacks stocked, dusting off our probes, putting out nest supplies on the beach and replacing lost mile markers.

SCDNR tells us we may have a late start to the season because of the cool ocean temperatures. In Georgetown County, we usually have our first nest when the ocean temperature is around 75 degrees. It is currently in the mid-60s so it may be a few weeks. Check back here because we will let you know when the turtles have returned! In the meantime, please do you part to help by keeping oceanfront lights off at night, removing your beach items nightly and keeping the beach free of trash. Turtles like a clear unobstructed beach for successful nesting!
